Novel Idea

So - I was watching 'Julie & Julia' yesterday and the idea of publishing my novel to my blog to gain attention actually sounded like a good idea! Is it? Do I just give up my hard work for free or does it draw much needed attention to the idea? I know it will force me to work on it much more than I do...
